Parts of … In MontessoriJuly 30, 2008 by Miss Norma | 3 comments
For my training I had to develop a curriculum. I chose ocean Life. So I made a lot of parts of sea creatures. The children really enjoy making books of parts of. The one they love the most was the Parts of the Manatee. Some children did that work daily. Every time they did it, it was like if they were doing it for the first time.
I really enjoyed working on this project because i got to learn about a lot of sea animals specially those that are native to Florida. It also helped me build my confidence during circle time. In a Montessori classroom it is very important to have good circle time. During this time is that children learn to build their attention and learn about different cultural and world topics.
During my research of Ocean Life I most enjoyed making the materials for part of the different sea creatures. I made about ten parts of . Some of them were Parts of the Shark, Parts of the Sea Horse, Parts of the Fish, Parts of the Lobster, Parts of the Jelly Fish, and Parts of the Star Fish. If you need any of these or others feel free to contact me to get a copy of it. I will also have some of them up so that you can download it and make it for you classroom.

Summer Time, No Time Off for MontessoriJuly 27, 2008 by Miss Norma | No comments
A few weeks ago was the beginning of summer. I had been off for a week and began working summer camp at the Montessori school I work for. I was looking forward to it because I have time to do planning for the school year. It is going to be my first year as the head directress in a classroom. I am excited and nervous. I am definitely looking forward to it. It is what I been wanting since I graduated college, to be a teacher.
It’s funny, this was a week to relax and forget about school for a while, but I actually have not stopped thinking about it.
I went shopping a couple of times and I saw things that I would like to buy for my classroom. I love the fact that in a Montessori classroom you can use so many daily practical life items, such as place mats, bowls trays, screws, screwdriver, clothes and cups. A Montessori classroom is composed of so many different things that in almost any store you can find something you can use in the classroom.
I’ve been imagining what I would like my classroom to be like and how I am going to have the children happy and stimulated, wanting to learn everyday.

Maria Montessori, My Quote of the DayJuly 21, 2008 by Miss Norma | No comments
“Whoever touches the life of the child, touches the most sensitive point of a whole which has roots in the most distant past and climbs towards the infinite future.”
~Maria Montessori
As I looked for a mug for coffee at work I saw the quote on a mug. I so agree with this quote. I strongly believe that us as teachers have so much influence on the child and their future. It is true the human soul lives in the past and the future. Anything any one person does affects so many other things in life. To touch a child’s life is to touch that entire being. To be able to influence a child is such a big privilege and honor and anyone that has that ability should be greatful and careful on how they are going to use it. Most important, that person should only use that privilege in a positive way. To Influence a child is the same as influencing the future and the world.
I always keep in mind that what I do, not everyone can do. That I should be only a role model to the child. In being that role model I am that child’s pass into how and what that child would be to the future. My mission is to have the child learn in a safe and happy environment where he can make choices and learn respect and appreciation for it. Once the child is happy, learns to make choices, respects, and appreciates that child is on the way to being successful.

Why I Love MontessoriJune 13, 2008 by Miss Norma | No comments
I love Montessori because I see so much more in the children. I worked in a public school as a substitute and I enjoyed doing that but I felt like I could see or help the children get what they wanted. I substituted for a middle school for the same six grade class for about four months and the children had no interest in being in the classroom. I try talking to them about what would make them feel happy to be in school and they would not speak. This made me feel like they did not trust me or the school to give them what they wanted. This made me feel like I did not belong there.
Since I worked at the Montessori school I am in I have not felt like I do not belong there. The children are so welcoming and happy to be in school that you feel part of the environment right away. I say this because this year I got my Primary Montessori Certification for ages 3 to 6 and I visited a lot of schools and the children all were happy and involved in their work. Also, in the school I work in I did substituting for teachers when they were out and the children were always respectful and made me feel as if I always was their teacher.
I Love being a Montessori teacher because I have the opportunity to get to know my students and their families. I get a satisfaction, I feel as if I could change lives and children. Being a Montessori teacher is being part of a family that believes and trusts you. The children can open your eyes to different things daily. This makes me feel rejuvenated. I have something new to look up to.
Loving being part of what you do for a living is a big step to being successful and happy.
