Parts of … In MontessoriJuly 30, 2008 by Miss Norma | 3 comments

For my training I had to develop a curriculum. I chose ocean Life. So I made a lot of parts of sea creatures. The children really enjoy making books of parts of. The one they love the most was the Parts of the Manatee. Some children did that work daily. Every time they did it, it was like if they were doing it for the first time.

I really enjoyed working on this project because i got to learn about a lot of sea animals specially those that are native to Florida. It also helped me build my confidence during circle time. In a Montessori classroom it is very important to have good circle time. During this time is that children learn to build their attention and learn about different cultural and world topics.

During my research of Ocean Life I most enjoyed making the materials for part of the different sea creatures. I made about ten parts of . Some of them were Parts of the Shark, Parts of the Sea Horse, Parts of the Fish, Parts of the Lobster, Parts of the Jelly Fish, and Parts of the Star Fish. If you need any of these or others feel free to contact me to get a copy of it. I will also have some of them up so that you can download it and make it for you classroom.

Hi there,

I’m training to be a montessori teacher and doing the same as you did - developing a project of ocean life for pre-schoolers.

I have to also devise a 10 minute lesson to give to a child, I wanted to use my fish in the lesson as children love anything that moves! Can you suggest anything that say your 4 year olds enjoyed?

thanks

Hello Robina,
They love working with object to object matching and making the parts of booklets. They love to color and trace or write the names of the parts of the different animals. Even the three year old love doing it. I made like 8 parts of for different sea animals and they would work together to complete their booklets. You can also do the life cycle of the fish or any other sea animal.
I hope this helps.

I would love to borrow your parts of a manatee work or any other ocean life cards. I have serveral students and myself, who are visiting Florida and tropical Islands over winter break.
Thanks,

    • This blog is about me as a Montessori mom, believer and follower. I want to inspire others to believe in what I experience everyday in my classroom, children learning in a peaceful and happy environment. Children learning at their own pace, helping and guiding each other.

I started this blog because I want to share my views and experiences as a mom and a devoted Montessori teacher. I recently finished the primary certification with American Montessori Society (AMS). I really enjoyed this experience even though at times it seems as if I was never going to finish. It was lot of work and up and downs for me. I am extremely happy I did it
